"Too Much Talent Wasting in Ghana” – Gloria Sarfo Gets Emotional About the State of the Local Movie Industry

Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has shared a heartfelt message that’s resonating deeply across the creative space. In a passionate social media post, the award-winning actress opened up about the frustrations faced by Ghanaian talents, including herself, who feel overlooked and under-supported in their home country.

"This MUST be looked at, seriously," she began. “There are lots and lots of talents wasting in Ghana year after year, trust me.”

Sarfo, best known for her role in Efiewura and the acclaimed film The Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later, said she’s often reminded by fans, friends, and even family that she’s "wasting [her] talent in Ghana."

“They Would Do Exceptionally Well in Nigeria…”

The actress praised Nigeria’s entertainment industry for creating opportunities and offering real support to creatives, something she feels is lacking back home.

“Great, great talents who’ll do exceptionally well in Nigeria meeeehn. And there are people to PUSH THEM too. But in our case… oh my heart,” she wrote with emotion.

She even questioned how the tables turned, pointing out that not too long ago, it was Nigeria looking to Ghana for inspiration and talent.

“It was the other way round just a few years ago. So WHAT HAPPENED? What really happened? Or is it the numbers? Or what?” she asked.

Time to Take Things Into Our Own Hands?

Frustrated but not defeated, Sarfo suggested that Ghanaian actors and creatives may have to take matters into their own hands by producing their own films and content.

“I’m just here recommending people left, right, and center… because I KNOW what we have back in my country. I KNOOOOOOOOW!”
