Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has strongly condemned the acts of violence that marred the Ablekuma North rerun election, including the reported assault of prominent party member Hawa Koomson.
Addressing the media in the aftermath of the incident, Dr. Bawumia expressed deep disappointment in the NDC-led government for what he described as a lack of intervention and accountability.
“It is unacceptable for such acts of violence to occur under the watch of the current administration,” he stated. “We must not normalize political intimidation and brutality.”
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the urgent need for the perpetrators to be identified and prosecuted, adding that justice must be swift and uncompromising.
“If the government fails to ensure that justice is served, we in the NPP will not let this moment pass unnoticed. We will remember,” he added firmly.
The incident has sparked growing concern among party supporters and civil society, raising fresh calls for peaceful democratic processes as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections.
