Laryea Kingston Believes Chelsea Would Have Been a Bigger Move for Mohammed Kudus Than Tottenham
Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has shared his thoughts on Mohammed Kudus's imminent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, expressing that he had hoped to see the talented midfielder land at a "bigger" club—specifically, Chelsea.
Kudus is on the brink of completing a reported £55 million switch to Spurs, marking the end of his stint with West Ham United. The move is set to make him Ghana’s most expensive player ever, eclipsing the €55 million Arsenal paid for Thomas Partey in 2020.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM in Accra, Kingston praised the move but couldn't hide his belief that Kudus is destined for an even grander stage.
"Mohammed Kudus moving from West Ham to Tottenham is one step forward in his career," Kingston said.
"But honestly, I was expecting him to join a bigger club like Chelsea."
While Chelsea were reportedly among the clubs interested in Kudus, talks never advanced, paving the way for Tottenham to seal the deal.
At just 24, Kudus has already made significant strides—proving himself in the Premier League, Champions League, and on the international stage with the Black Stars. Fans and pundits alike see his move to Spurs as another big opportunity, even if some, like Kingston, believe a club with Chelsea’s stature would have better reflected Kudus’s potential.
As the football world awaits official confirmation, one thing is clear: Kudus's journey is far from over—and all of Ghana will be watching.
